313

A 2 track deep house single (18m 56s) — released January 1st 2010 on Traveller Records

Bicep are a duo that hail from Belfast, brought together through a common obsession with all things analogue. Growing up with an amalgamation of jazz, rock and Detroit techno helped Bicep form an obscure approach and understanding of music. After each picking up a set of 1210s in their early teens they set about collecting records and experimenting to find their own style. Skip forward several years and numerous DJ appearances playing others records, Bicep realized they needed to make their own brand - succumbing to as Bicep describe it "Detroit-influenced house music with rawness and soul". Their debut 12-inch released on Ghost Town NYC sold out in a few days and now collectors eagerly anticipate their next release. The concept for the 313 EP developed out of a new found love for Detroit house and Techno music. After being self confessed admirers of the scene since its early days with Dan Bell, Derrick May, Carl Craig and 3 Chairs - a new found resurgence in music produced in the 3-1-3 District has inspired them to release this EP on Traveller. The first track "313" is very much hazy late-night jam, really showing the range in emotions that take place during the course of a night. With a helping of sleaze and intoxicated sway, the record grooves and groves until it kicks into a laid-back jacking jazz melody where it reaches its elegant peak. On the flip, "Winter" is a track crafted out of a cosmic melody created last winter during a train through a snowcapped Scottish highlands. It has an icy vibe with harsh hats, delicate chimes and tubular synths that help drive the track into space.
